Quoting Specialist

Position Overview
The Quoting Specialist plays a critical role in driving profitable growth by producing accurate, timely, and strategically sound freight quotes. This role serves as the financial and feasibility gatekeeper for new freight, ensuring all quoted business aligns with margin targets, capacity realities, and operational execution standards.

As a dedicated quoting function, this position enables speed, consistency, and pricing discipline while protecting Dispatch and Operations from unprofitable freight.

Key Responsibilities

Pricing & Quoting

Prepare and deliver accurate, competitive freight quotes within required timeframes
Analyze lane data, market conditions, and historical performance to determine optimal pricing
Evaluate margin targets, cost structures, and feasibility before releasing quotes
Ensure all quotes align with company profitability and service standards
Make independent pricing decisions within established margin and risk thresholds, escalating only exceptions requiring management approval.
Analytical & Decision Support

Assess risk, capacity constraints, and operational complexity when pricing loads
Identify pricing trends, margin leakage, and improvement opportunities
Maintain consistency and accuracy across all quoted lanes and customers
Operational Coordination

Collaborate closely with Dispatch and Operations to validate feasibility and execution requirements
Confirm capacity availability, equipment needs, and service expectations prior to quote submission
Communicate quote details clearly to ensure smooth handoff once freight is awarded
Process & Documentation

Maintain accurate records of quotes, assumptions, and approvals
Follow established quoting procedures and contribute to process improvements
Support the development of standardized pricing guidelines and tools

Role Scope Clarification

This role does not dispatch loads or assign drivers
This role does not manage customer follow ups after freight is awarded
This role does not resolve execution issues once loads are in transit
Required Skills & Qualifications
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
High attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and margins
Ability to work effectively in time-sensitive, high-volume environments
Clear communication skills and comfort working cross-functionally
Proficiency with spreadsheets, pricing tools, and transportation systems
Preferred Experience
Experience in transportation, logistics, or freight brokerage
Understanding of dispatch operations, capacity planning, and lane economics
Prior experience in pricing, quoting, or margin analysis
